Seniors

Marilyn et al. Movies and Munchies came first. Recognizing that the West End neighborhood and the West End churches all have a thriving population of elder citizens, West End Ministries in 2007 took over a seniors program that was already in place at Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church.

When the Senior Program moved from Rankin to the West End Community Center, program director Chris Gillespie held his breath. Would the seniors, many of them members of the Methodist Church, make the change? He should not have worried. With his creative programming, the seniors group has flourished.

What we offer:
2nd Tuesday of each month: Movies, Munchies and More
2 pm

The movie offerings have changed from Andy Griffith television show shorts to full-length movies. The group decided in March that they wanted to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and dress for the occasion. The "more" also includes senior trips. In the fall of 2007, the seniors took a trip to Myrtle Beach where they had some scrumptious meals and watched two shows. There are more visits to the region around High Point planned. Check the calendar, Special Events and Happenings, for details.

4th Tuesday of each month: Bingo
2 pm

Bingo was new in 2007, but has rapidly become a favorite item on the seniors' activity menu. Several volunteers have provided prizes, so part of the fun is seeing what's on offer for the winners. Every player is a winner, though, because of the fellowship and friendship that comes to every meeting.
